SHA Hash Generator

Generate SHA-1, SHA-256 and SHA-512 hashes in the browser. No account, no upload, no limit.

Output appears here.
Computed with the Web Crypto API, locally. Hashes are one-way — you cannot reverse them.

Which algorithm to use

SHA-256 for anything new. SHA-1 is broken for collision resistance and should only be used to verify existing checksums. SHA-512 is faster on 64-bit hardware but produces a longer digest.

Hashing is not password storage

A plain hash is far too fast for passwords. Use a memory-hard algorithm — bcrypt, scrypt or Argon2 — with a per-user salt.

Checksums in practice

Compare the full digest, not a prefix. Truncated comparison is the classic way supply-chain tampering goes unnoticed.
