Base64 is not encryption
It is a transport encoding: anyone can decode it in one step. Never use it to hide a password, a token or personal data.
Why this one handles UTF-8
The browser's btoa only accepts Latin-1 and throws on emoji or Chinese characters. This tool converts to bytes first, so text survives the round trip.
Where you will meet it
Data URLs in CSS, inline images in HTML email, HTTP Basic auth headers, and JWT payloads — the middle segment of a JWT is Base64URL, not plain Base64.
