The best free tools for designers (tested, no trial walls)
Every tool here has a free tier you can finish real work in. Anything that only offers a seven-day trial with a card wall was left out, which is why this list is short.
01CanvaFastest route from brief to finished graphic. Free exports carry no watermark.
02FigmaThe only free tool that produces specs a developer can build from.
03UnsplashCommercial-use photos with no attribution requirement.
04TinyPNGCompress before handing off — twenty files per batch, no account.
05Remove.bgClean cutouts on hair and fur. Free output is low-res, so budget for credits if it goes to print.
How we picked
Each tool had to pass one test: finish a realistic job on the free plan without hitting a paywall mid-task. Products that only offer a time-limited trial with a card requirement were excluded, which is why several well-known names are missing. Prices and limits change — every entry links to its own page with the checks we ran.
Is Figma's free plan enough for client work?
For one project at a time, yes. The three-file cap becomes the constraint the moment you run two clients in parallel.
